Candidate 46
Zaid Salie
I am a Cape Town-born and bred Muslim and received a sound Islamic education from an early age. My connection to Cape Town's Muslim community is deeply personal, with generational members of my family buried at Mowbray Muslim Cemetery. I have a strong appreciation for its Islamic heritage and its importance to our community.
I bring more than 30 years of Information Technology experience, having served with major organisations including Pick n Pay, The Foschini Group (TFG), Sanlam, Old Mutual, Mediclinic and the City of Cape Town. In every organisation I served, I was lawfully appointed to my position. My roles required integrity, accountability, confidentiality and sound judgement.
My IT experience covers cybersecurity, infrastructure, systems support, website development, data management and technical problem-solving. I have worked with Microsoft Azure, Active Directory, Microsoft servers, Office 365, computer networks and security systems. I have investigated phishing, malware and suspicious activity, monitored security logs and implemented measures to reduce security risks. I have also managed backups and data recovery, supported users and trained staff.
I can apply this experience to strengthening Mowbray Cemetery's technology for the future. This includes improving its website, developing reliable data systems, strengthening cybersecurity and protecting confidential information. Technology can also improve financial transparency, reporting and accountability. My website and digital design experience can support the Cemetery's public image and communication with the community.
I hope to combine my professional expertise, Islamic values and personal connection to Mowbray in service of the Cemetery and the wider Muslim community.
