Mogamat Ganief Kamedien
Mogamat Ganief Kamedien is a recently retired public sector manager with 28 years of service at national state department level, 1996–2024. His key portfolios included 10 years as Secretariat of the Departmental Information Technology Committee, and Facilities Manager for DALRRD's Provincial Head Office. In that role he supervised maintenance across 5 metro and 4 district offices, liaised with DPW on a R20 million refurbishment, and led planning for the relocation of 6 Directorates. He was also part of the management team that established the Western Cape Regional Land Claims Office.
A heritage, history and cultural activist, Mr Kamedien has served the community for decades. He was a Board Member of Shukrul Mubeen Madressah for 17 years and served as Secondus on the Cape Mazaar Society's Kramat SAHRA Task Team for the first batch of 10 Kramats. His impact included mobilizing global Cape slave scholars to endorse the CMS application for National Heritage Site status, and serving as CMS spokesperson during the SAHRA public participation process. He was Minutes Scribe for the 1994 Shaykh Yusuf Tricentenary Committee and a founding member of Wynberg East Neighbourhood Watch.
He currently serves as Vice Chairperson & PRO of the Cape Family Research Forum, and as Council Member of the Western Cape Archives Advisory Committee 2025–2028, having previously been Vice Chairperson 2022–2025. He contributed to Bibliography of Bondage (2007) and to UWC's 2026 ebook Indigeneity, Slavery and Nation. A 2023 Western Cape Cultural Affairs Award recipient, he is committed to preserving Cape Muslim history, archives and community memory.
